A strange Wednesday

So on Wednesday night, I was going to spend a chill night at my apartment, but my friend invited me over to Cafe Hiro for dinner. Unfortunately I had already been eating, so I would join him for a drink or two later while they were eating dessert.

That night, I decided to wear this jacket I got from Tokyo.

Front side:

According to someone I met at sake tasting, the jacket’s characters sounds like “do-em” which isn’t a real word in Japanese. Some guesses I had were its a play off the English word “dumb” or “dream”.

When I arrived at the restaurant, I met up my friends, and this Japanese guy behind me starts laughing out loud and gives me a high five. He said “that jacket is awesome man!” and proceeded to take a picture of it. He then got back together with his group and started chatting about it.

I continued to chat with my friends when my curiosity finally got the best of me where I asked him, embarrassingly so, what the meaning of the jacket was.

He said it exactly in these words, “It means ‘masochist’. You know, how you like to get hit and slapped. Not just that it means SUPER ‘masochist’.”

In my head I was like oh my gosh. And wtf. I was laughing with the other group in good humor, but slightly embarrassed I would get a jacket that would say that.

Furthermore I found out through a waitress that he actually painted all of the paintings in Cafe Hiro AND he is some very famous surf painter in Japan. I talked to a person in his group, and she told me that everyone at that table were surfers and that I should keep in close contact with him.

I got his business card and his website is http://www.nakisurf.com.

Yea so.. I’m probably still going to wear that jacket.
