wildflowers blooming in so cal

I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal that a very rare occurrence is going on around the world right now. Desert wildflowers are blooming in certain areas in the world due to right environmental conditions. So I was reading the areas and they were stating, So Cal, Las Vegas, San Diego, Australia, Iran..
And I was like.. what the heck so cal??? Looks like the heavy rains we had enabled the flowers to actually bloom.
So looks like I might make a roadtrip out to the desert to see this rare occurrence. If anyone else goes, post pictures!
